From the founders of Flying Solo, Australia's micro business community, comes the book that started it all, fully updated for a new wave of modern business owners.

Originally published by Allen & Unwin in 2005, Flying Solo How to go it alone in business is the bestselling guide to breaking out on your own. It gives you the tools you need to plan and start your own venture or totally overhaul and rejuvenate one that's been ticking along for years.

Combining motivational and practical advice, Flying Solo explores the habits and behaviours of successful soloists; explodes some of the myths of marketing, time management, online success and networking; and ensures you thrive as a micro business owner.

Flying Solo How To Go It Alone in Business Revisited eBook Robert Gerrish Sam Leader Peter Crocker

I had thought this would be a step-by-step trudge through the usual process of setting up a business but it''s better than that. It's all about a responsible sustainable philosophy of going into business for yourself.

I found it full of useful, practical examples written in very easy to read style that keep me turning 'pages' (I downloaded it to Kindle on the Samsung Galaxy sIII) and it has converted my thinking on business, especially as a solo operator, and about eBooks.

Enjoyable, useful and worth the money. Will refer to it often to keep me inspired.

Flying Solo How To Go It Alone in Business Revisited eBook Robert Gerrish Sam Leader Peter Crocker Reviews

This book is a simple no nonsense explanation of the ups, the downs and bits in between for those going it alone like me. It is a great read for those that are doing, those that are thinking of doing and those that procrastinate about doing it... David
This book brings takes a realistic and encouraging look at working for yourself and the mentality needed to build your business. Clearly written style, great flow - Thanks Robert and Sam!!
An enjoyable, easy to read book which had plenty of tips.

Even though I am a 10 year veretan of 'going solo', it was good to be reminded of a lot of the simple things that get forgotten when you are 'heads down' in your own business.

I recommend anyone who is thinking of starting a solo business (or anyone who has been running one for a while) to pick up this book and read it.
Clearly this book is for solo entrepreneurs! And right from the beginning, you know that this book is for lifestyle entrepreneurs like ourselves who want our work to fit our life. Here's a quote from page 7 "It ain't what you do, it's the way that you do it."

While this book is rooted in the practicalities of running a solo business, it is also inspiring and motivational as it tackles such issues as the importance of attitude, how to embrace uncertainty, and the criticality of staying aligned with your passions in designing your work. My favorite quote "Soloists simply cannot afford to separate life from work and need to stop obsessing about finding *balance between* the two and instead focus on finding *harmony within* the two."

This book is a delight! Cheerful and upbeat, you can almost hear the cheerleading behind the words. Easy to read and well-laid out, the book includes helpful (but not overwhelming) exercises to get you on the right path.

For a long time now I've considered Free Agent Nation, by Daniel Pink, to be the soloist's bible. While I still consider it to be a groundbreaking book, I think I will shift to Flying Solo as my recommended read for aspiring and new solo entrepreneurs, or those who may have lost site of the reason they went solo in the first place.
I thought the book was a fair read but it didn't contain enough meat and potatoes about going on your own
A lot of very practical advice and information. I think anyone who follows the advise laid out in the book will be successful.
I would advise people to read it, even if they're not going into business for themselves. A lot of the principles taught in the book could be applied to everyday life, whether you are a soloist or not.
The way the book is written, its very easy to read, and its obvious to see that the authors have 'been there, done that' when it comes to starting and maintaining solo enterprises.
I came away from the reading with so many things I wanted to follow through on, and I have referred back to the book several times since reading it, which also makes it a valuable ongoing resource.
Highly recommended.
